Snakes are out!

Yes, that's right. A client of our clinic spotted what was thought to be a brown snake over the AFL Grand Final weekend, and Dan saw one at his home only three days earlier (on one sunny day following a period of heavy rain!).

Here are a few hints to help you and your pets avoid snakebite this summer:
-Avoid long grass in warmer conditions, and waterways - snakes like them too!
-Fringe areas (eg. on the edges of housing estates, vacant blocks, creeks, walking tracks)
are popular spots for snakes
-Keep grass short on vacant or disused land
-Don't let your pet play with snakes - surprisingly, many people do. It is rare for a dog to fight a snake and not get bitten in the process!

If you fear your pet may have been bitten by a snake, keep them very still and calm, and contact us immediately.
Should you have a snake in or near your property, please let us know and we can refer you to an experienced Snake Catcher, so the snake can be safely re-located.
